신밧드 - 아이와 함께 읽는 영어 원서

이번에 읽은 영어 원서는 "신밧드의 모험"으로 알려진 SINBAD 입니다.

로빈훗과 마찬가지로 만화로 되어 있어 아이가 읽기에 부담이 없는 것 같아요.

기존의 옥스퍼드 북웜 시리즈의 Starter와 달리 내용이 좀 더 긴 Dominoes 시리즈의 Starter 버전입니다.

이 시리즈의 특징은 중간중간에 문제가 많습니다.

처음 경험하기 때문에 모든 문제를 풀면서 읽지는 않고, 단순하게 책을 읽는 것에 집중했습니다.

 

아이가 잘 모르는 단어들을 여기에 정리해 봅니다.

- explore / v. 탐험하다, 살피다.

  ex) Sinbad explores the island with two of the sailors.

- armour / n. 갑옷

  ex) Sinbad climbs down the tree and he makes some armour from the wood. 

- cannibal / n. 식인종, 육식동물

  ex) The cannibals put the sailors and Sinbad in a cage. 

- fall in love with / v. ~와 사랑에 빠지다.

  ex) When Sinbad sees Ayisha's beautiful face, he falls in love with her at once.

- bury / v. (시신을) 묻다. 매장하다.

  ex) When a woman dies in this country, they bury the husband with her.

- wreck / n. 난파선, (부서진) 비행기, 자동차의 잔해

  ex) He finds the wrecks of old ships and hundreds of jewels on the beach.

- caliph / n. 칼리프(과거 이슬람 국가의 통치자를 가르키던 칭호)

  ex) Your Caliph is a very good and wise man.

- prisoner / n. 죄수, 재소자

  ex) The priates make Sinbad and Yasmin their prisoners.

- ivory / n. 상아

  ex) You must hunt elephants every day for thier ivory.
